Katie graduated from Johns Hopkins University earning her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in History. While at John Hopkins, she served as a leader in several GLBTQ student organizations and spent a summer interning for President Clinton’s top aide on GLBTQ issues at the White House. After completing her master’s thesis on gay and lesbian political activism in the 1960’s, Katie moved to Chicago to pursue her PhD in American History at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Katie gave birth to her son Elliot Asher Magnuson Batza in May.
