STARS COME OUT!
LGBT Stars of Tomorrow Benefit
June 12, 2006
Directors Guild of America
Los Angeles, CA
Special Host k.d. lang, and actors Judith Light, Chad Allen, Robert Gant, and a constellation of celebrities joined 600 LGBT and straight VIP supporters at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles to raise funds and celebrate Point Scholars our LGBT Stars of Tomorrow!
Other celebrities and VIPs who helped make the event a smashing success included Dave Koz, OUT and Advocate Publisher Joe Landry, Michael Moore, Kathy Najimy, Danny Bonaduce, Martha Plimpton, Robbie Laughlin, Honey Labrador, and Calpernia Addams.
Sponsored by Abercrombie & Fitch and dozens of other generous corporate sponsors, the evening’s festivities included a Paparazzi Cocktail Reception followed by a theater program with Special Host k.d. lang and an exclusive Premier Live Reading from the upcoming film SAVE ME, by the film’s stars Chad Allen, Robert Gant, and Judith Light, with narration by Robert Desiderio.
Entertainer Scott Nevins added his comedic wit as Program Host, while Board Director Herb Hamsher and Point Scholars spoke movingly about their lives and how much The Point Foundation has meant to them personally and to our community.
Another highlight of the evening was a poignant celebration of the life of the late Kevin Hummer, a Point friend who provided for a generous scholarship gift through his estate.
The Star-Gazer After-Party featured a chance drawing for over 20 fabulous prizes, such as a 10-day luxury Silversea Cruise for 2, a week’s ski vacation at Park City at The Canyons with 1st class travel on American Airlines, stays at the Hotel Bel-Air, Chateau Marmont, and the Chicago Peninsula, a Mitchell Gold chair, VIP passes to the Ellen DeGeneres Show, fine art, and much more.
Guests also were rewarded with chic Armani gift bags stuffed with fabulous items such as a DVD set of the last season of HBO’s Six Feet Under, k.d. lang’s new CD, REINTARNATION, and Simon Doonan’s witty memoir Nasty.
The evening was a smashing success, bringing in $475,000 in gifts and pledges to date for Point Scholarships, over 600 guests and countless new friends and supporters for The Point Foundation.
THANK YOU to Abercrombie & Fitch and all our sponsors and supporters, our Special Host k.d. lang, the stars of Save Me, and all our friends who worked so hard and gave so generously to make our 1st Annual LGBT Stars of Tomorrow Benefit a tremendous success!
