Summer ConferenceJuly 28-30, 2006 Lake Bluff, Illinois
The Point Foundation hosts its annual Scholar Summer Conference in various locations throughout the country each year typically in the month of July. Point scholars, trustees, staff and special guests and presenters attend the three-day conference, which includes diverse and contemporary topics that are pertinent to the LGBT community. It is the Point Foundation’s mission to provide financial support, mentoring and hope to meritorious students who are marginalized because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The annual Summer Conference supports this mission with a fresh approach every year- a new location, current issues, and influential seminars. In addition, the Summer Conference gives Point Scholars the opportunity to experience culture & communities around the country as well as, network amongst their peers, and LGBT leaders & allies. Past seminars have included:Political Strategist, Activist and Author David Mixner Author, Kenji Yoshino (‘Covering’) Matthew Shepard Foundation, Judy Shepard Transgender Issues by Joanne Herman Media Training Anti-Oppression Training (Fierce!) Sexual Harassment by Dipal Shah, Esq. Photographer, Joyce Tenneson Filmmakers, Marlene McCarty and Christine Vachon Summer Conference locations include: Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada, Harbor Springs, Michigan and Lake Bluff, Illinois and planning is in process for the location and date of the 2007 Summer Conference.
