Point Honors Benefit - Los Angeles 2009
The California community came out to celebrate Point Honors LA and raised nearly $280,000 for our vital work. The annual gala, held this year at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel, featured stars from TV and the silver screen donating their time to entertain the crowd and present two special awards.
The Point Inspiration Award was presented to Motorola by Lost star Michael Emerson. The legendary Lily Tomlin appeared to salute her friend two-time Tony winner and very recent Emmy winner (24) Cherry Jones with the Point Courage Award. The crowd was entertained by a great introduction by Lily and then witty and touching banter between Lily and Cherry.
Inspiring, emotional and uplifting speeches from Point Alumna Angela Clements and Point Scholar Kyle Rapinan and a touching violin solo by Point Alumnus Zach Zyskowski were among the evening's highlights. With dozens of paparazzi photographers and news crews attending, Point Honors is scheduled to be featured on Extra! and is continuing to receive on-line coverage including this piece from The Advocate. During the week leading up to the event, Cherry Jones spoke about Point during interviews on Sirius/XM radio and LA's local Fox morning news show Good Day LA.
Motorola is making the most of the achievement. Motorola employee and Point Board of Directors member Kyle Spainhour reports that the award from Point was featured in a weekly "headline news" write-up sent to all Motorola employees, including a link to Point's website. Viral publicity such as this is incredibly helpful in increasing awareness and furthering Point's ability to fulfill its mission.
