FastWeb and the National Scholarship Providers
Association (NSPA) announced on October 4, 2007 at the NSPA
conference in Portland, ME that the Point Foundation and the
Ford Family Foundation have been awarded the 2007 NSPA
Scholarship Provider of the Year awards. This prestigious
award, sponsored by FastWeb, recognizes scholarship
providers that demonstrate exceptional leadership,
efficiency, and impact in their support of higher education.
The Point Foundation and the Ford Family Foundation will
each receive a monetary award of $2,500 designated for their
general scholarship fund.
Point Foundation (Point) is the nation's largest
scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual
and transgender (LGBT) students of merit. Point provides
financial support, leadership training, mentoring and hope
to LGBT individuals who are marginalized because of their
sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
The organization provides its scholars with the financial
ability to attend the nation's foremost higher educational
institutions and its donors and mentors with the rare
satisfaction of directly investing their resources and time
in future generations of leaders.
Point Foundation believes in rewarding these individuals who
endure the daily harassment and abandonment of family,
friends, educational institutions and communities with the
opportunity of higher education. Through Point's scholarship
and community, the organization empowers its scholars and
gives them the support and encouragement to excel both
academically and personally.
FastWeb, the Internet's leading scholarship search service,
helps students make the decisions that shape their lives:
choosing a college, paying for college, and finding jobs and
internships. FastWeb is a free service and can be found at
www.fastweb.com.
The NSPA’s mission is to advance the collective impact of
scholarships by informing policy, and to provide
opportunities for professional development and the exchange
of best practices among scholarship providers. The NSPA is a
membership association representing over 200 scholarship
providers including private, community, and corporate
foundations, colleges and universities, and affiliate
organizations engaged in the field of higher education
scholarships.
