J.R. Mortimer
Boston University
Concentration: Design
Raised in rural Kentucky, J.R. was very active in visual arts while in high school. During his senior year, his parents read about how he was gay in his journals and threw him out. They eventually allowed him back into the home, but assured him that they would not help pay for his college education. They viewed the schools he had applied to as “gay friendly.” With his Point scholarship, J.R. is now a senior at Boston University, getting a major in psychology and a minor in statistics. J.R. would like to turn his journal-keeping habits into a professional career as a novelist. He feels that his contribution to the GLBT cause will be through writing. His first manuscript is near completion.
