Corey Koscielniak
Macalester CollegeInternational Studies and GeographyCorey was born in Chicago, but his parents raised him in several states, and he has lived in eleven houses. Corey has maintained a close relationship with his entire family, especially his straight twin brother whom he values as his best friend. Corey gravitated toward leadership in his high school career in such positions as a student director and student body president. However, as a gay academic, he found much of his studies to be heterosexist as well as absent of positive role models. These observations sparked his early interest in LGBT community involvement, and in his senior year he was chosen as a GLSEN JumpStart Leadership Team Member. With their training, he was able to discuss problems with his school about issues concerning language and curriculum in the classroom. Currently Corey is working towards inclusive aspects of positive gay role models in school education. Corey will attend Macalester College starting in the fall of 2007. After his undergraduate studies he plans to enroll in law school focusing on international affairs and human rights. He wants to work in a global setting and travel abroad in his career in hopes of representing underprivileged denizens in Africa and South America. |
