Kha Trinh
Notre DameHistoryKha Trinh was born in Saigon, Vietnam and moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1997. When he was 14, he came out to his family and friends who were supportive of his identity. By being public about his sexual orientation, Kha garnered support and started a GSA at school with support from students and school officials. With stable involvement from LGBT students, his GSA hosted various guests including a local Senator (Kurt Thompson), YouthPride representatives, and an Atlanta Journal Constitution reporter writing a story about GSAs. Throughout high school, Kha actively worked in community service. As the senior intern of his school’s Volunteer Center, he planned and implemented independent as well as joint community service events such as an annual food drive, clothing drive, Adopt a Road, Make a Difference Day, Aids Walk Atlanta, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, and two Hispanic College Fairs. For the last two years, he was also a mentor at two local middle schools. Recently, he finished his work for the Youth Advisory Board in planning the Georgia’s Youth Leadership Conference on Feb. 3, 2007. Kha will be attending Notre Dame as a history major and plans to teach when he graduates. |
